Let’s recap – what is resilience?
Operational resilience is the question of how well your organization can continue operations after a critical event. It sidesteps the thorny questions of long-term data maintenance and of recovery, assuming these will continue as normal.
Instead, the core question being looked at is what your operations look like during a recovery process. Even if a critical event can be reversed fully, the process is not instant! Operations have to continue at least to some degree; if they do not, your organization is undergoing running costs (employee payroll, system maintenance, and other overhead) while de facto not running. The costs incurred this way, with no operational revenue to offset them, can be significant.
Operational resilience is therefore a question of how well you can continue day-to-day business as usual while recovery processes are running in the background. Depending on your business, this can be a relatively simple question – or a particularly thorny one.
